NOTE: With effect from November 2006 the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in General Surgery will consist of two parts. The first part will comprise a two hour multiple choice paper and a further two hour paper using extended matching questions. The second part will be a clinical and oral examination. During 2007 the clinical and oral examination will retain the format of previous years, comprising three vivas and two clinical examinations, but candidates will not be allowed to take it unless they have passed part 1.
The first sitting of Part 1 will be held on 18th November 2006 and the second sitting on 23rd June 2007. This means that candidates wishing to take Part 2 in February or June 2007 will have to take Part 1 in November 2006. The closing date for applications to sit Part 1 in November 2006 is 8th September.
The Higher Surgery Course does not at present offer teaching directed specifically towards the MCQ and EMQ papers though the course content will be relevant to them. Candidates may choose to attend the course either before sitting Part 1 or before sitting Part 2 as they prefer.
