Types of Specialist Training Programmes
Whipps Cross University Hospital Specialist Training Programmes are part of the London Postgraduate Deanery. The Director of Medical Education at Whipps Cross is Dr Simon Quantrill (Simon.Quantrill@whippsx.nhs.uk).
Years 1&2 of the specialist training programmes in medicine and surgery start as Core Medical Training (CMT) and Core Surgical Training and are administered within the Trust with overall supervision by the London Postgraduate Deanery and the Royal Colleges. Years 3 and above are administered by the specialty training committees for the relevant specialty. For anaesthetics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology and psychiatry all years are administered by the specialty training committees.
The years 1& 2 posts and programmes are outlined below:
Core Medical Training (CMT) Programme
There are 13 posts of 24 months rotating through medical specialties including:
Cardiology
Diabetes/Endocrinology/Renal Medicine
Emergency Medicine
Gastroenterology
Haematology
Medicine for elderly people
Stroke Medicine/Neurology
Some posts have all 24 months at Whipps Cross whereas others rotate to or from Barts and The London Hospital. Some posts have 6 months in the specialty and some are 4 months.

There are 4 (6 month) posts rotating through accident & emergency, emergency medicine, anaesthetics and ITU.

North East Thames Foundation School is an administrative partnership between the London Postgraduate Deanery and, Queen Mary's School of Medicine and Dentistry. The Foundation School is responsible for the admission and placement process of postgraduate year 1 and year 2 trainees to those posts within the Foundation School . This currently includes posts at the following NHS Trusts within London and Essex :
